Biography
Charlotte has enjoyed a fulfilling 22-year career as a professional musician in HM Royal Marines Band Service culminating in her final 8 years as Principal Clarinettist at the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre, Lympstone CTCRM. As the leader of the Wind Band and as a resident Soloist, her vast array of experience in performing on the world stage, the Royal Albert Hall and Buckingham Palace being particular highlights. She has travelled the world and represented the country at numerous high-profile national events, most notably HM Queen Elizabeth II Platinum and Diamond Jubilees, the funerals of HRH Duke of Edinburgh and the late Queen, as well as the Coronation of HM King Charles III. Playing within a variety of ensembles including orchestra, woodwind quintet, parade and wind band, Charlotte has also enjoyed the opportunity to play a huge variety of musical genres from classical to modern contemporary and jazz to big band.
Her career culminated in reaching the rank of sergeant, a senior non-commissioned officer, with which comes the responsibility of leadership in mentoring younger members of the band and the addition of acquiring skills in composing, arranging and developing a high level of music theory and history knowledge. Her academic qualifications alongside this additional experience in such skills has contributed to Charlotte having an all-encompassing knowledge of music across the subject.
Charlotte has 15 years’ experience as an instructor, and mentor of young people in a military setting and as a music educator in the local area. Having acquired the Certificate in Music Education in 2017 (Trinity CME,) she has been actively teaching young people across numerous musical education settings. Her passion and enthusiasm for teaching young people skills in music is proven by her dedication to High Park Community Music project as a volunteer for the past 7 years, providing young people access to instruments and tuition for just £2 per week.
Her recent appointment to the team at Guildhall Young Artists, Taunton GYAT reflects her quality and experience as an educator, as does her record of students passing music exams at high levels in both ABRSM and Trinity boards.
Charlotte has experience in teaching adult students, and she conducts the Wiveliscombe Town Band, which she thoroughly enjoys; working with people of all ages and backgrounds to make music collectively within a community setting.
Charlotte continues to perform as a soloist in the local area and a regular performer at Taunton Minster, St Mary Magdalene, Spring Recital Series alongside her revered pianist Andrew Carter. They have raised many contributions to local charities in their local performances across 7 years.
Charlotte is an enthusiastic, positive person, approachable and amenable to any student. She is resilient, dependable and professional in her approach to all roles she undertakes as a music educator and will ensure learning is fun and rewarding for all.
“I thrive on teaching with variety - from classroom environments with large and small groups of students to individual peripatetic based coaching for both young people and adults, beginners and advanced musicians alike.”
